ABOUT LAGUIOLE BY JEAN DUBOST
Laguiole ( pronounced lag-ee-ol ) is not a brand but rather a style of traditional French knife. Created by the farmers that lived and worked in the region of Thiers.
Jean Dubost Laguiole is a fourth generation family owned and managed business located in the small village of Viscomtat.
There are a number of factories producing 'Laguiole' knives and cutlery - from the very exclusive to the lower end. Jean Dubost produces middle to high-end ranges regularly found in the boutiques and famous department stores throughout the world.
The blades are stamped, ground and polished with over 25 manual production stages, including hand polishing of the handle, blade and back of the knife.
Jean Dubost blades are stainless steel AZ420C. They are hand polished and sharpened, and can be resharpened as required.
Jean Dubost produce both Acrylic and organic handles. The acrylic handles are made from high tech ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). ABS is a high impact, lightweight material used in products such as golf club heads, musical instruments, protective headgear and automotive components. The organic handles include a variety of European timbers, such as olive, wenge, birch etc and also real horn ( cow horn ).
Acrylic handles are dishwasher safe, but care should be taken not to use abrasive dishwashing powders as these may dull the bright colours. Organic handles are not dishwasher safe and care should be taken to avoid prolonged imersion in water.
